Museo Ferroviario Campo Marzio

Museo Ferroviario Campo Marzio
The museum occupies part of the station from which it takes its name. The station was built at the beginning of the 1900s and was the terminus of the line connecting Trieste's harbour and the Austro-Hungarian and Bavarian hinterland, and of the so called Istrian Railway. Its rooms house a vast collection of photographs, drawings, documents and memorabilia that tell the story of the railway service in the province of Trieste, structured in four sections: history, technology, movement and traction. One section is dedicated to the old trams and to an accurate scale model of the Opicina railway junction in 1910. On the well-preserved tracks, visitors can admire eleven steam locomotives, an electric and a diesel locomotive, as well as a number of Trieste’s trams. Currently the Museum is managed by a group of enthusiasts from the After-work Railway Association in collaboration with Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane.
