The Giuseppe Verdi Lyric Theatre is Trieste’s main opera house. Built between 1798 and 1801 according to the original project by Giannantonio Selva, it was completed by Matteo Pertsch who designed the exterior of the building, and in fact the main façade bares a strong resemblance to La Scala in Milan, as Pertsch was a pupil of Giuseppe Piermarini, who designed the Milanese theatre.
