The museum, housed in Trieste’s historic Palazzo delle Poste, shows the evolution of the postal service from the mid-19th century to modern days, with particular focus on the period in which Friuli Venezia Giulia was under Austrian administration. The museum is organised into different sections: postal service, with exhibits, forms and documents ranging from the Austrian period to modern days; telegraph service, with the devices and telegraph equipment from various periods; postal cartography, showing the maps and the different postal itineraries over time; military post, with all the equipment to run a field post office. An octagonal showcase is home to the reconstruction of a late 1800s post office, and one room is dedicated alternatively to postal history and stamp collections.
