The Museum, located on the first floor of the Morpurgo Palace in via Imbriani, is organised into three sections. The first is dedicated to the history of Trieste, displaying works of art and artefacts that recall the atmosphere of the city in the nineteenth century, at the moment of its greatest commercial success. The second section is devoted to the collection of Socrate Stavropulos, with 150 paintings, sculptures and drawings by various Italian and European artists dating from antiquity to the 20th Century. They were donated by the Trieste collector of Greek origin between 1952 and 1958. Finally, the Fabric room presents a display taken from the rich textile collection of the Civic Museums of History and Art, from the silky fragments of the 15th to 19th centuries to ceremonial, evening and ethnographic wear, and sacred vestments, of the 18th to 20th centuries. There is a strong focus on the creations of Anita Pittoni, the brilliant textile designer from Trieste who was active in the inter-war years.
