Located in the heart of Trieste, just a few steps away from Piazza dell’Unità d’Italia, its collections include works of art, arms and armours, musical instruments and numerous ethnic objects mainly from China and Japan. The Chinese section is dedicated to embroidered silk clothing and fabrics from the Late Qing Dynasty (19th century) and porcelain collections dating back to the Song Dynasty (11th to 13th century) all the way to the Late Qing Dynasty (19th century). In the Japanese rooms visitors can admire porcelains and the precious collection of Ukiyo-e (Floating world) prints and surimonos, including works by great masters such as Hiroshige and Hokusai (The Great Wave off Kanagawa). Visitors can also learn about Kabuki theatre, religious traditions and rituals, and through the rich collection of arms and armours dated between the 15th and the 19th century, explore the life and ethical code of the Samurai.
